How Much Does AC Repair Cost in Las Vegas?
When the air conditioner quits in Las Vegas, the first question is not "who do I call" but "what is this going to cost." Here is how AC repair pricing works in the valley, what the common repairs run, and when to stop repairing. Numbers are ranges gathered from local companies and cost guides in 2026; your quote will depend on the part, the brand, and the day. Use this to judge a quote, not as a quote.
The service call
Almost every company charges a diagnostic or service-call fee to come out, usually $75 to $150 in Las Vegas, and most apply it to the repair if you go ahead. Emergency, after-hours, and holiday calls cost more, and a July heat wave is when prices and waits are highest. If you can wait until morning, say so and ask for the regular rate.
Common AC repairs and what they run
| Repair | Typical Las Vegas range | What it usually means |
|---|---|---|
| Capacitor | $150 to $450 | The unit hums but the fan or compressor will not start. The most common summer failure. |
| Contactor or relay | $150 to $400 | The unit will not turn on at all, or will not turn off. |
| Condenser fan motor | $400 to $900 | The outdoor unit is quiet or the fan spins slowly; the unit overheats and shuts off. |
| Blower motor | $450 to $1,200 | Weak or no airflow inside even though the outdoor unit runs. |
| Refrigerant leak repair and recharge | $300 to $1,500 | Blowing warm air, ice on the lines. The price depends on finding the leak and on the refrigerant type. |
| Evaporator coil | $1,200 to $2,800 | Repeated leaks or a coil that has corroded through. Often the point where replacement wins. |
| Compressor | $1,500 to $2,800 | The big one. On a unit over 10 years old, get a replacement quote at the same time. |
| Full system replacement | $5,000 to $14,000 | A new 3 to 5 ton split system installed, including permit. More for high efficiency or two-stage equipment. |
Refrigerant: ask which kind
Systems made before 2010 often use R-22, which is no longer manufactured. A recharge on an R-22 system can cost two or three times what the same job costs on a newer R-410A system, and the leak will come back. If a technician quotes a big refrigerant bill on an old unit, ask for the replacement price before saying yes.
The repair-or-replace rule
A common rule from Las Vegas technicians: multiply the age of the unit by the repair cost. If the answer is over 5,000, or the unit is 12 or more years old and the repair is over $1,000, replacement is usually the better buy. A new system cuts the summer power bill, carries a 10-year parts warranty, and will not fail again in August. NV Energy offers rebates on qualifying high-efficiency equipment; ask the company to check current programs.
Heating repairs
Most Las Vegas homes heat with a gas furnace in the same air handler, or a heat pump. Furnace repairs run cheaper than AC repairs on average: an igniter or flame sensor is $150 to $400, a blower motor the same as above, a heat exchanger crack is a replacement conversation. Heat pump heating problems are usually the same parts as cooling problems.
How to keep the bill honest
- Ask for a flat price in writing before work starts, not an hourly estimate.
- Ask what the part is, why it failed, and whether anything else is close to failing.
- On any repair over a few hundred dollars, get a second quote. Response times in the valley are fast enough that this rarely costs you more than a day.
- Check the license. Nevada requires HVAC companies to hold a Nevada State Contractors Board license, and the license number must appear in their advertising. Look it up on the Board's site before you pay.
